Bastiaan Tolhuijs is one of the creators and also owner of Tolhuijs Design: a sustainable design agency specializing in upcycling waste and residual materials into Dutch Design. Just like the wood of Hout met Historie, Bastiaan's products tell a story. The sustainable waste and residual materials are passionately crafted into products where quality, aesthetics and social production play a major role.

About Bastiaan Tolhuijs

As a small child Bastiaan spent much of his time looking for lost treasures and that fascination is still there. He proves with his products that the end of a material's life cycle often doesn't have to be the end. "I work mostly with waste or residual materials, such as metal, plastic and, of course, wood!" Bastiaan shows that waste doesn't have to be ugly and that beautiful things can be made from it, which the user can add to an interior in different ways. "Old wood is common as pallets or for example wagon parts, material that Wood with History provides. By processing this wood, you can really show that waste can also be very beautiful."

"It is always difficult to get wood, but Wood with History always knows how to deliver it. I mainly buy wagon parts there, which is becoming increasingly scarce. Wietze and Jurjen are friendly guys who stand for a quality end product, a good price and good service to the buyer. They are never too reluctant to exchange certain boards for another or better one. And the maker network is a super idea! Makers are helped to find an outlet for their products and consumers are directly referred to their own customer. Very nice to be able to participate in this in this way."
