Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the difference between an old wood floor and a new oak floor?
A new oak floor comes fresh from the forest, sawn and dried in a factory. An old wood floor has lived in a building for centuries, dried naturally, doesn't deform (it already has), and bears marks that no one can fake. It is literally the same material, with a different story.

2. Can an old wood floor with underfloor heating in an old house?
Yes, provided the floor is suitably prepared. Our inside and outside floorboards glued to birch plywood are stable enough for processing over underfloor heating. For solid old planks, we recommend customization: call by for advice on proper construction.
-
3. Does an old wood floor need to be treated?
We deliver the boards sanded and stopped where needed. For the final finish, you have three choices: oil (moderately glossy, natural look), lacquer (protective, harder finish), or nothing at all (purest appearance, does require maintenance). What fits best depends on the location and use. We are happy to think with you.
-
4. How to level for an old wood floor?
For laying an old wood plank floor, a level surface is important. For solid planks on battens, some irregularity is possible and even desirable. For glued construction on birch plywood, a properly leveled screed is required. We think about the right subfloor in the quotation.
-
5. What does an old wood floor cost per square meter?
The price depends on width, thickness, origin and processing. The current price list can be downloaded at the top of this page. For project prices and large lots: call or send a request.
-
6. Do you also supply individual antique floorboards or only complete floors?
Both. We sell individual old floorboards for small projects, complete custom floors for homes, and large lots for project design. Also suitable for those who want to lay their own or work through their own flooring contractor.
-
7. Can I sand an old wood floor myself if it wears out later?
A solid old oak floor can be sanded several times, more easily than a thin laminate floor. There's also part of the value there: a floor that you can carry with you for 50 years and rework with each generation.
